paw society

our amazing partner charity

People’s Animal Welfare Society was founded in 2021 and formed by over 50 years of animal rescue experience. Our founding team were tired of seeing so many animals being let down by the systems that were supposed to protect them and wanted to do better for our furry friends.

Right from the start, we decided to be foster-based. We know that animals behave differently in kennels and catteries, no matter how nice and clean the facilities are. When these animals move to a home environment, it’s anyone’s guess how they’ll behave. Assessing our animals in foster for a minimum of two weeks means we get to know the real them. Coupled with our in-depth pre-adoption procedure, we find each animal’s soulmate.

We’re experts in strays - both from the UK and overseas. Many countries exclude stray animals from their animal welfare laws, so we’re committed to reducing their numbers by bringing animals to the UK and funding mass neuter projects.

As well as strays, we specialise in elderly and disabled pets as many rescues are unable to provide the intense care they often need, and their euthanasia rates are much higher than young healthy pets.

We have big dreams for a small team but are limited by the number of foster volunteers we have. We welcome fosters with other animals and children as this allows us to complete accurate assessments in a variety of family situations.

comments from paw society…

Our partnership with Kiko’s has been incredible. The number of cats we can save tripled overnight and the attention the cats receive means they spend much less time in rescue. Animal welfare has always been at the heart of the café’s design and rules. We’re proud to work with Kiko’s to show that cat cafes can and should be positive places for the cats as well as the customers.
